Two Great(?) Resources for Advent

One of the things I’m trying to get better at is sharing exciting stuff that I’m doing, and I’ve got a lot of things in that category that I have not done a great job of letting people know about. Today, I’m going to fix a teeny-tiny bit of that, by sharing two cool series from The Catholic Podcast, the podcast that I co-host with my friend and SOF coworker Jennie Punswick.

The first is a series that we just finished. For the month of November, the month in which we commemorate the faithfully departed and celebrate All Saints’ Day, we had a theme called “Minor League Saints,” in which we focused on people who are (hopefully) on their way to canonization:

  1. Blessed Carlo Acutis
  2. Servant of God Chiara Corbella Petrillo & Blessed Bartolo Lingo
  3. Venerable Augustus Tolton

These three episodes are pretty simple, highlighting four fascinating people, who frankly, I didn’t know very much about until we started doing the research for the episodes. I think that each of them, in their own way, speaks to something very timely for us today (which is the rubric that we used in choosing who to highlight). So if you see a name on the list, you might give the episode a listen, and then do a little bit of research to find out more about them!

As I said, that was the theme for November. What about for Advent? Our theme is “Ransom Captive Israel” (based on the line from O Come, O Come Emmanuel) and it’s all about ways that Christ liberates us. What does St. Paul means when he says, “for freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1)? The first episode in this series just dropped today. In it, I got to interview my friend Matt Fradd, the host of Pints with Aquinas, and the author of The Porn Myth: Exposing the Reality Behind the Fantasy of Pornography:

As always, I love hearing what you think, so please feel free to comment below.
