  1. Hello Joe,

I listen to your podcast regularly and really enjoy learning from it. I was tuned in to your most recent podcast “8 Myths about Martin Luther and The Reformation” and I had a question. Near the end you spoke this passage about a pilgrimage for an indulgence: “You’re being asked to go on a mini spiritual pilgrimage and then when you get to those churches, you’re asked to pray in each church, five devout lord’s prayers, the our Father and five of Marias in the Hail Mary in honor of the five wounds of our Lord Jesus Christ, whereby our redemption took place or one misre, that’s Psalm 95, which psalm seems particularly appropriate to obtain forgiveness of sins. So several things are being asked of you.”

I was wondering if I could ask you the source material for that, I brought it up with the local KofC chapter and I would like to organize this type of mini-pilgrimage in our city, possibly for the Men’s Cor group, or maybe just for everyone who wants to attend. If you could help me out, that would be great.

Thank you and have a Blessed day,
    David Bucek

  2. Hello, I was wondering if I could at some point maybe have a conversation about Mormonism with you or maybe send some more specific questions regarding it as I am really struggling with doubts about the faith in regard to this?

  3. Hi Joe, in one of your podcasts, you read a text that described John the Apostle wearing the priestly breastplate. Can I know which text is that?

  5. Hello Joe. I saw your video “Were the Early Christians Wrong about Predestination”
Augustine has caused everyone to get predestination wrong. But I’m willing to show from the Bible what Paul was talking about in Romans 8. When can we talk?

  6. Hello Joe, I’m a Protestant researching some things regarding whether Protestantism is capable of making meta-judgements about the importance of doctrines with respect to church unity, and I recall your argument about truth and unity pulling in the same direction under Catholicism to be especially challenging and thought provoking, only I can’t seem to remember what the title of the podcast was. I’ve tried searching terms I thought would be relevant and poking around your podcast, but can’t seem to find it. There’s a slim chance I’m thinking of a video by Trent Horn, though I’m fairly certain it was by you. Sorry if there’s not enough detail for you to find the episode I’m thinking of, but if you can give me any direction towards it I would be greatly appreciative!

  7. Dear Joe Heschmeyer,

This is Justin Turner (OLGC parishioner) and Gavin Sample (Abundant Life member who frequently goes to OLGC inquiry).

Gavin had the idea to send you a clip of Phil Hopper responding to a question we sent him on an Instagram live and if are up for it you could respond to it.

Phil Hopper is the pastor at Abundant Life KC and we were thinking it would be so cool if this sparked something and there was some kind of in person discussion/debate with you two in the future and OLGC and AL could have some kind of mixer. (Big opportunity for exposure to Catholicism and conversions 🇻🇦).

I know you are incredibly busy and this is a big ask! No pressure at all to do this!

Linked below is an iCloud and google drive link to the same Phil Hopper video of his Instagram live.

  8. Do you have rebuttals to the various arguments formulated by Jacob in his debate with Trent over the book of Mormon?

  9. Dear Mr. Heschmeyer,

I wanted to take a moment to thank you. Your work has played a significant part in my conversion to Catholicism, and I’m deeply grateful for the clarity and guidance you’ve provided through your teachings.

I also have an apologetics question that I’ve encountered recently, and I would appreciate your insight. In a discussion with an ex-Catholic, now atheist, I was presented with a rather strange objection. He claimed that the Eucharist constitutes “blood magic” or witchcraft. His argument was that the Mass involves a weekly re-sacrificing of someone who died over 2,000 years ago, where the bread and wine are said to become flesh and blood, which is then consumed by the faithful. He equates this entire process with blood magic.

I responded by mentioning the Council of Trent’s teaching that the Mass is an “unbloody sacrifice,” but he countered by pointing to Eucharistic miracles as evidence, which in his view, supports the notion of blood magic rather than an unbloody sacrifice.

I haven’t come across this particular objection before, and I’m unsure how best to address it. Any guidance or thoughts you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for all you do!

    Best regards,
    Aaron Parks

  10. Joe, I’d like to hear an episode on the protestants’ Romans Road. Hope this is of interest to you. Thanks, Tim

  11. Hello, I started this before your episode, and changed it after your Halloween episode. My wife is expecting any day (Come on Halloween baby!), so I also rushed it at the end, haha. Hope you enjoy anyways. Sincerely, Jeremy S.

Mindy Minch Does not like Halloween

    “URGH” growled Mindy Minch.
“It’s that time of the year again! How I hate it; every inch!

“From all the decorations that are creepy up everywhere,
To the trick-or-treaters who run around at night without a care.

“I hate the Pumpkin donuts, pumpkin coffee, pumpkin bread, and pumpkin pies
Apple cider, and grapes decorated to be monster eyes!

“All the costume parties, costume contests, and costume pop-up stores!
All the candy and games, what is it all for?!”

As she sat fuming at the thought of it all
She wondered how she could get away from it this Fall.

Then inspiration struck her! She was the president of the HOA, the Home Owners Association!
Something so wild and scary in its own creation!

She wouldn’t be able to stop all of Halloween
But in her subdivision, she could get rid of the Scene!

So she went to work and drafted a letter
“To all the people in the HOA, I have a plan for the better,
We won’t do Halloween this year, trick or treating is dangerous
Think of the children’s lives! This night is so treacherous!
Not only can they hit by cars,
For what? So they can have candy bars?
It also comes from Pagans, it’s true!
A holiday the Catholic Church tried to Subdue!
But it worships demons, magic, evil
I won’t let it worm into our kids’ hearts like a little weevil!
Signed, you’re loving HOA President, Mindy Minch”
Hah! She thought, What a synch!

Mindy Minch printed 100 copies and mailed her letter out
Without having even a moment of doubt.

As her neighbors made it home and opened their mail
She listened as one by one children did wail!

All evening she had been smiling so smug,
A twisted grin plastered all over her mug.
Mindy Minch went to bed not regretting her actions for even a second.
But as she laid sleeping beckoned.

“Mean Mindy Minch, Mean Mindy Minch” it called out her name
She opened her eyes to see what was to blame!

There at the feet of her bed stood a small boy.
He had a light glow around him and emanated joy.

She gasped out loud being startled in fright.
“Mean Mindy Minch” The boy repeated, “You’re not doing right!”

“What are you talking about, I am not the one who is mean!
What about all those people who want to hurt souls on Halloween?!”

    “Oh, I’m so glad that you asked;
Explaining Halloween to you was the mission which I’ve been tasked!”

The boy exclaimed “I am going to show you the origins of the Hallowtide Triduum!”
Then in a flash, Mindy Minch and the Boy were no longer in her room.

Instead the saw a large white building with pillars of beautiful stone
A man in robes was in front of a crowd, but chanting alone.

He dipped what looked like a stick
Into a small round brass bucket that was quite thick

And spread the water as far as he could reach
While he continued to enamor the crowd with his speech.

    “That is St. Pope Boniface
And he is blessing this old place

Where so many Christians had met their ends,
It is from this that Hallowtide Descends.
It’s three days of honoring dead:
Hallow’s Eve, All Hallows day, which celebrates those who in Heaven tread
And, finally, All Souls, for those in Purgatory
And still need prayers to finish their journey to Glory.”

Mindy Minch huffed at the boy
“What do you mean? Purgatory is just a ploy!
We shouldn’t pray with or for the dead
    Their judgements on their head!”

The boy looked sad for a moment, but the gave a small smile,
“God prefers mercy to justice; that’s His style!”

Mindy Minch twisted her face into a frown,
“But Halloween is a thing of evil, it brings people down!”

Again there was a flash of light,
And now they were standing in a village at night.

People were wandering from house to house, asking if they needed prayers,
And little carved jack o’lanterns made of turnips in the windows and stairs.

“Miss Mindy Minch, these people are souling,
They are saying prayers for consoling,
And are given soul cakes in return
This is the start of trick-or-treating that you so spurn.”

“So nothing came from the pagans like we’ve been taught?
“Nope, but it has been bought.”
    The boy sighed
    As he replied.
    Just like many other things
Money has its place, but trouble it always brings.
But that doesn’t mean it should be banned
It should be celebrated as it always had.”

There was another flash and Ms. Mindy Minch woke in her bed,
With thoughts rushing through her head.

She bolted up, ran to her computer, and typed up another letter to her neighbors
Trying to undo her previous labors,
It simply said, “Sorry I was wrong
    All along”.
Everyone stared at her as she handed them out
But perked up when they read what it was about

Then she went into her kitchen to check her supplies
“This year I am going to give them a grand surprise!”

She cooked dozens and dozens of soul cakes
As many as she could possibly bake

And when the children knocked on her front door
She’d give them a cake and say, “Please pray for deceased souls more!”

And with those extra prayers the spirit of the boy
Finally got out of Purgatory himself, to experience eternal Joy.
