A Dark New Era Has Begun

You know those paranoid Christians who talk about how the government is going to start rounding people up for preaching the Gospel? Well…. it, uh, turns out that they’re not so crazy. A couple days ago, a British street preacher was arrested for preaching that homosexuality was a sin. And what’s even more shocking about it that from the description given by the London Times (no famous friend of Christianity), the preacher was listing a whole list of things, “including blasphemy, drunkenness and same sex relationships. ” Nor was it said in the course of a street sermon, but in a conversation with a single passerby. “During the exchange, he says he quietly listed homosexuality among a number of sins referred to in 1 Corinthians, including blasphemy, fornication, adultery and drunkenness.”

The story also noted:

Harry Hammond, a pensioner, was convicted under Section 5 of the Act in 2002 for holding up a sign saying “Stop immorality. Stop Homosexuality. Stop Lesbianism. Jesus is Lord” while preaching in Bournemouth.

Think about the media coverage given to those countries which consider homosexuality a crime. Now realize that we have a 2002 case and an April 2010 case of individual being arrested for preaching nothing (so far I know) more or less than Christianity. These sorts of story (and the virtual media blackout regarding them in the US press) are chilling.

(Don’t worry, I’m not skipping my final. I read this late Wednesday night, and felt it was too important not to post).
