The Catholic Church’s Rules on Sex Abuse Reporting

The Vatican has put together a clear-cut, straightforward explaination which describes step-by-step what everyone involved should do if a sex abuse claim is raised. Here’s an even more condensed version of the steps involved: A: Preliminary – “The local diocese investigates every allegation of sexual abuse of a minor by a cleric,” and if there’s… Continue reading The Catholic Church’s Rules on Sex Abuse Reporting

Two Contending Views on the Pope’s Role in the Sex Abuse Scandal

It’s Holy Week, so I’m purposely steering more towards the Passion of Christ than the sex abuse scandal (although I won’t be surprised if it’s addressed on Thursday by the pope). That said, the clamor over sex abuse has gotten louder and, if you can believe it, crazier. Let me cite you two views on… Continue reading Two Contending Views on the Pope’s Role in the Sex Abuse Scandal

Is This a Joke? Media Attacks Benedict for … Something?

I’m not usually a fan of the way Catholics stories get reported on the media, but this one has been shocking. I’m going to go more in-depth on the sex abuse scandal as a whole soon, but I just have to say this: the press has been desperately manufacturing a story to suggest that Pope… Continue reading Is This a Joke? This Rock

An earlier post by Joe describes the Catholic understanding of Matthew 16:18. Something that is not taken into account enough when discussing this verse is the location in which it was uttered. After a pilgrimage in the Holy Land a couple years ago, I can’t hear this verse without the tremendous geological and cultural backdrop… Continue reading This Rock

Funny Clip About Pope Benedict

Is it one of the most over-used Internet phenomenon? Yes. Is it still hilarious? Also yes. Plus, how can I pass up a video which, in under 4 minutes, summarizes what I’ve taken a year to say about Pope Benedict, National Catholic Reporter, the new Mass translation, the Pope’s ecumenical outreach to the Anglicans, the… Continue reading Funny Clip About Pope Benedict

What Do Men Say Matthew 16:18 Means?

I recently got to see Catholicism proved through negation. Stacey and Chris have attempted to inject a bit of Catholic clarity and charity into an anti-Catholic conversation (as I did briefly) on this post, and they’ve just been getting slammed with hostile comments and told in no uncertain terms that, while the blog has literally… Continue reading What Do Men Say Matthew 16:18 Means?

Listening to the Church Fathers

Yesterday, I shared part of an ongoing debate I’ve been having with Brian, a Creedal Protestant ex-Catholic who runs a blog dedicated to fighting against theological novelties in the field of eschatology. He fights for traditional, Creedal Christianity, the faith of the Church Fathers (as he understands it) against those who are completely fine with… Continue reading Listening to the Church Fathers

Can a Pope Resign?

Yes. Canon 332, ยง2 says that, “If it happens that the Roman Pontiff resigns his office, it is required for validity that the resignation is made freely and properly manifested but not that it is accepted by anyone.” Who would have guessed it’d be that straightforward? (h/t Canonist Ed Peters on Fr. Z’s blog).

The Papacy: Answering Common Objections (#6-8)

Back in October, I started answering a series of oppositions to the Papacy which I was calling the Reymond questions, after their author, Robert L. Reymond of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church (originally from here). You can find all of my answers by using the Reymond Question tag at the bottom of the post. Today’s… Continue reading The Papacy: Answering Common Objections (#6-8)
